The objective of the red thermal indicator is to provide the installer with an additional visual cue of the solder sleeve transforming and flowing into the wire strands. The most common mistake using solder connectors is not heating the solder enough, creating a cold solder joint (inferior termination). To prevent a cold solder joint, the red dye offers an extra visual cue for the installer to continue applying heat to the solder connector until the red dye disappears from the solder sleeve. This ensures a good solder joint, which maximizes tensile strength & conductivity. Heat shrink insulated terminals have a greater pull strength than vinyl or nylon. The LEAD-FREE solder and crimp capability of these connectors provide an extra secure connection and facilitates in resisting corrosion and other harsh environment debris. Thermal Indicator LEAD-FREE Solder butt connectors can be used in automotive, industrial and other applications that use wire to transfer electrical current. All contain an assortment of terminals in 22-18, 16-14, and 12-10 gauge sizes.
