Del City Supports Veterans with Wheelchair-Accessible SUV Built by West Coast Customs

Menomonee Falls, WI (July 3, 2013) – Del City recently teamed up with West Coast Customs, BraunAbility, and Sam Schmidt to customize a wheelchair-accessible SUV. The camouflage-painted 2013 Ford Explorer was recently given to Marine Lance Cpl. Mike DeLancey.

In 2006, DeLancey was shot by an enemy sniper while serving in Iraq. This tragic moment led to DeLancey being placed in a medically induced coma for three months. Confined to a wheelchair, he's still undergoing therapy. More than 200 veterans and guests, including DeLancey's longtime friend and platoonmate, Sgt. Mike Guynes, gathered to present him with a brand new SUV that will change the way people view wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Del City provided West Coast Customs with all the electrical parts needed to power the wheelchair lift that allows DeLancey to comfortably drive the SUV. "It's truly an honor to be a part of this project" said Del City's Business Leader, George Dowse. "This specially equipped SUV offers more options and easier accessibility than other mobility vehicles."
